CODAF AND FUPRE COLLABORTE TO TRAIN STUDENTS ON BRAND AUDIT

Brand Audit Federal University of Petroleum Resources Waste Management Zero Waste


The environmental impact of plastic production is a major problem for our planet's health and
well-being. The large-scale manufacture of plastics has resulted in a significant rise in plastic
trash, which has become a serious environmental concern, endangering animals, ecosystems,
and human health.

As part of her commitment in advancing sustainable practices and promoting environmental
stewardship, the Director, Centre for waste management, Federal University of Petroleum
Resources (FUPRE), Dr. Akinyemi O. Ogunkeyede collaborated with CODAF to facilitate a
workshop to train staffs and post graduate student on brand audit.

The workshop which took place on the 16th of January 2025 at the Centre for Waste
Management and Sustainable Resources in FUPRE was the first workshop facilitated by CODAF
in 2025.

As part of her commitment in advancing sustainable practices and promoting environmental stewardship, the Director, Centre for waste management, Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), Dr. Akinyemi O. Ogunkeyede collaborated with CODAF to facilitate a workshop to train staffs and post graduate student on brand audit. The workshop which took place on the 16 th of January, 2025 at the centre for waste management and sustainable resources in Fupre was the first workshop facilitated by CODAF in 2025. Mr Endurance Oriakogba, the project officer, during his lecture stressed the need for brand audit in every Institute and commercial centres, stating that if we must break free from plastic, all hands must be on desk. He also explained that brand audit is an advocacy tool, and that manufacturer need and should be accountable for their brands in the environment. Hence, the data collated from the exercise must be used to engage manufacturers and brand owners to take responsibility in any way necessary to reduce the nuisance caused by plastic waste in the environment. According to Dr Akinyemi, the aim of the workshop was to train postgraduate student and staff of the department of Environmental Management and Toxicology on brand audit, so as to carry out brand audit exercise within the institution. He stated that the aim of this training is to generate data on the on types and quantities of plastic waste found within the institution.
